PlayStation Acquires Savage Game Studios
The company is pretty much focused on developing action games for mobile platforms. The CEO and founder Michail Katkoff introduced the team to PlayStation gamers with the following statement: The CEO of the company stated that they were looking forward to bringing the select title of the mobile experience to PC as well and to make sure that the quality and innovation are on par with what we’ve seen in the console development space. “So why then,” you may be thinking to yourself, “would you join PlayStation Studios?” We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be “why not?” On behalf of everybody at Savage Game Studios, thank you for having us. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on! – Michail Katkoff She states that they’re proud of becoming a part of the PlayStation and they’re proud of the many impressive titles that are coming to the PlayStation pretty soon in addition to the new technologies arriving such as the PS VR2. They’re also pretty impressed by the new PlayStation PC release of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for the PC and hope to deliver an equally impressive experience on both PlayStation and Mobile gaming platforms. PlayStation VR2 is also on the horizon, and promises a huge leap forward in presence and immersion, bolstered by best-in-class software like Horizon: Call of the Mountain. We’re proud of our releases on PC as well, with Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and the upcoming Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection giving gamers without PlayStation hardware a taste of our amazing library of first-party titles. – Michail Katkoff The Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, went on to reassure fans that the mobile effort will add to the existing console offerings rather than take from it alone with a growth in the PC initiative. Savage is already in the works for a AAA live-service action game. Hulst went on to state that their efforts in the realm of mobile gaming are not meant to take away from the current console additions to the PlayStation platform but to provide more content to the platform and allow users on different devices to become accustomed to the PlayStation franchise and their games. To achieve these goals, PlayStation was proud to announce that Savage Game Studios was joining under their wing to create what they’d consider PlayStation’s Mobile Gaming Division. The Studio will independently work to develop games for the mobile platform while PlayStation would continue to focus on the Console platform. Therefore PlayStation hopes to kill two birds with one stone on two different devices and platforms. PlayStation claims that players will get to experience new and innovative on-the-go experiences. Savage Games Studio’s entry into the mobile sphere as the representative of PlayStation and future PlayStation games meant for PC and mobile platforms seem to be in a grey area. I hope you’ll join me in welcoming Savage Game Studios into the fold, and that those of you who enjoy mobile gaming in addition to console or PC will look forward to what they have in store. They’re already working on a new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game. – Herman Hulst Mobile games aren’t very impressive, to begin with. Littered with unavoidable ads, paid in-game microtransactions and purchases, a gacha-gameplay system, and uninspiring gameplay and storyline show the subpar and mediocre market and platform and market that is the mobile gaming platform. But maybe Savage Game Studios will bring something different to the table now that it’s under Sony PlayStation’s shadow and deliver us actual exciting and compelling games for both Mobile and Console platforms. But will the PlayStation Mobile Gaming Studio create uninspiring cash grabs and disappoint fans with similar and repetitive games in an already saturated market? Only time will tell.
