Elden Ring had a pretty smooth launch, and it soon took off. The highly anticipated game from From Software was eagerly purchased by fans of the Dark Souls franchise, and they were instantly hooked. Elden Ring was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Elden Ring Sells 16.6 Million Copies Worldwide in Under Just Six Months
The From Software title was released on February 25, 2022, and in under just six months, publisher Bandai Namco proudly announced that Elden Ring has managed to sell a staggering 16.6 million copies worldwide. Although FromSoftware has numerous successful games under its sleeves, Elden Ring has proven to be the biggest individual success in FromSoftware’s history. The combined Dark Souls series managed to sell a total of 27 million copies, while the most recent figure revealed for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was revealed to be 5 million copies as of the summer of 2020. Elden Ring selling 16.6 million copies worldwide, basically takes the cake at this point. It’s pretty evident that the mass market and gaming community love the game. The news came about as a part of Bandai Namco’s financial results for the first financial quarter of the fiscal year of 2023, which was revealed by Gamebiz Japan. The Japanese giant has raked in some good money. It reported video game sales of over 40.5 billion Yen, which accounts for a 55 percent year-on-year increase. A total of 11,444,000 units were sold over the course of just three months. This brings about the total number of 16.6 million copies sold for Elden Ring. While the Publisher started off with a pretty good start for this financial year, the hype for Elden Ring is not the same as it used to be, and sales will decline as time passes. Bandai Namco forecasts that there will be an overall decrease in profit for this financial year. This is pretty much elaborated by the ongoing developmental investments they’re making for future games, and no further AAA titles are expected to release this year. But Elden Ring is still selling well, and if it continues to sell at this exorbitant rate, which it probably won’t, the end of the year will be pretty good for Bandai Namco, not to say it isn’t already. Investors seem to think similarly, as the Publisher’s stock has risen considerably and is at its highest at 11,200 yen a share after these results were publicly released. But there’s also a possibility that the company is inflating their profits and units sold just to keep the hype train going, but that’s mere speculation. Sadly, the boring numbers didn’t suggest anything interesting like an upcoming Elden Ring DLC or a new From Software game. The game is rich in content with an incredible open world full of quests and sidequests, collectables and hidden items to find. But fans are getting dried up here. Numerous veteran From Software fans have 100 percented the game and even finished it multiple times now. So, fans are definitely itching for a fix that gets them to enjoy another round in the Lands Between. Elden Ring has given us gamers an experience worth living for. Fans got to enjoy some incredible boss battles, a never-ending selection of weapons, armor sets, secret helms and shields. And there was never a moment where I wasn’t on the edge of my seat. Elden Ring is indeed a perfect game, and it’s pretty much set the bar for future RPGs. From Software has a lot of expectations to meet for future releases. Let’s just hope they keep their game together and not falter like CdProjekt Red did as they dropped the ball with Cyberpunk 2077 after releasing a game as successful as the Witcher 3. Whether it be the memes, the epic tale of Let Me Solo that killed Malenia 1000 times, helping players around the Lands Between, finding secret dungeons across the Lands Between, or even trolling players, Elden Ring still seems to be getting a lot of love and fan content for the community to enjoy. Despite being almost a year old, Elden Ring is still pretty much alive. So far, we’ve only gotten our hands on a few fake leaks, or if you could even call them leaks. FromSoftware has given the world some incredible DLC content for the games that we’ve played, and with 16.6 million copies sold and players on deck, the question is out there.
