Death Stranding For the Xbox PC Game Pass
Death Stranding is officially coming to Microsoft’s beloved Xbox PC Game Pass that fans enjoy. Users can gain access to a plethora of videogames for just 9.99 dollars a month or 14.99 dollars if they opt for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The game will be available on the service on August 23. Developer Kojima Productions and publisher 505 Games revealed that the original Death Stranding and not the Director’s cut will be available to Xbox PC Game Pass users at 5 pm Pacific/8 pm Eastern on August 23, and 10 am AEST on August 24. The announcement reads as such: Death Stranding originally came out as a PS4 exclusive back in 2019 before it finally arrived on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store later in 2020. The Director’s Cut of Death Stranding came out quite recently in January 2022. This will be the first time that the game appears under Microsoft’s umbrella, which somewhat blurs the lines between the Xbox and PlayStation rivalry. Though it’s clear to note that there has been a bit of controversy between the company as Sony accused Microsoft of being anti-competitive in order to halt or slow down the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. In a similar fashion, Microsoft accused Sony of bribing game studio’s to opt out of bringing their games to Xbox’s Game Pass Service. Kojima Productions is making moves as well, and we don’t know if it sits well with Sony. Despite Death Stranding being published by Sony interactive and being available as a PlayStation console as an exclusive, the studio’s next game is intended to be an Xbox exclusive, which comes as a shock to many. All Kojima games released so far have been Sony PlayStation exclusives, in addition to the ones published by Konami. After a long history with Sony, it seems strange as to why Kojima went with Microsoft this time around. Fans didn’t respond very well to this announcement, and they speculated that due to complications with Sony, Kojima Productions had a falling out with the software and console giant. Due to the uproar caused by the fandom and gaming community, Kojima Productions was forced to clarify that the studio still has a very good partnership with PlayStation.
Death Stranding 2 for the Xbox?
There will be more Death Stranding content coming up quite soon. It was a few months ago that Norman Reedus, Hideo Kojima’s favourite actor or crush, as we like to think, leaked the existence of Death Stranding. Kojima took notice of this and responded playfully to the whole matter. Kojima is referring to the private room, which is the rest area in Death Stranding. The tweet was made all in good fun with Kojima posting a thumbs up, a heart eyes emoji and images of the pair having a good time, including one with Kojima holding the infamous bat from the Walking Dead, which made Normal Reedus famous. It seems Kojima is possibly threatening Norman Reedus as a joke.
— 小島秀夫 (@Kojima_Hideo) May 21, 2022 Reedus did reveal some information about the game in an interview with Leo Edit. Norman Reedus, who played Sam Bridges in the original game, has leaked what would’ve been a surprise sequel announcement of Death Stranding 2. Despite selling around 5 million copies of the game worldwide as of March 2021, Kojima Productions have been pretty silent in regards to its future projects. “It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the mocap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.” It was in 2019 that Kojima stated that if he made a sequel, he’d start from scratch, meaning that both games wouldn’t share any assets, and the sequel would have a stark difference from the original in terms of direction and gameplay. It was in 2020 that Kojima teased a sequel but informed IGN that it didn’t represent any major plans but fragments of new ideas. Guess he was lying after all.
